Araxos Airport was constructed in 1941 as a military airport and since 1980-es it has been operated as a civil airport in Greece. It is still characterized as a military airport since it still functions as an active air base for Hellenic air force. So each private flight is required an authorization by HCAA. During the summer period civil airlines carry out flights in the airport generally as charter flights, but also not only. International air carriers such as AEROFLOT - AIR BERLIN - JETAIR - TUIFLY - SMARTWINGS - RYANAIR connect European cities MOSCOW - DUSSELDORF - MILANO - PAPHOS - PRAGUE - STUGGART with Peloponesse. Araxos airport capacity is more than 133 000 passengers during a season, according to the technical characteristics the airport is capable to accept any kind of aircrafts.
